# What is agentic advertising?

> Agents that act for brands and media owners, talking to each other directly, inside rules people set. Here is what that means in practice.

Agentic advertising is advertising in which software agents act for the people involved. A buying agent works for a brand. A sales agent works for a media owner. They discover, negotiate and transact with each other directly, and people decide the goals, the limits and what needs a human sign-off.

## The parties

- **Buying agents** carry a brand's objectives, budget and standards. They can run inside Semicola, inside an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT, or inside a company's own stack.
- **Sales agents** describe what a media owner sells, from CTV packages to newsletter sponsorships, and answer requests with priced offers.
- **Specialist agents** add audience signals, creative production or governance checks.

## What changes

In programmatic buying, most of the negotiation happens implicitly, in auctions and through intermediaries. In agentic advertising it happens explicitly. A brief goes out, proposals come back with their terms, and the buyer's agent compares them against the brand's rules before anything is booked.

That makes some things possible that were awkward before. Buying a podcast host-read and a CTV package in the same plan. Asking a seller for a custom package around next month's launch. Seeing exactly why an offer lost.

## What does not change

People remain accountable. On Semicola, every write an agent wants to make, such as launching a campaign or accepting a buy, can require confirmation, and sellers can route anything below their floor to a manual review. Every call is recorded, so there is always an answer to "who did what, and why".

## How to try it

Advertisers can [start in the Semicola app or their AI assistant](https://semicola.com/for-advertisers). Media companies can [list a storefront for free](https://semicola.com/for-media-companies). Developers can read [the agent brief](https://semicola.com/for-agents) and connect over MCP in a few minutes.
